It’s what I did this morning, and it may have been the just the kick in the pants I needed.

When two cars, one old, another even older don’t start on a cold, hurried morning, there’s probably plenty of temptation to wonder, what else could go wrong today? There’s plenty of reason to feel aggravation at the inconvenience.

(That’s my story today, anyway.)

It would have  been easy to whine (which I did) and then follow up with a Money Matters and More how-to list of what to do when both cars go on the fritz.  But when the following email from the Meals on Wheels folks reached my inbox today, it made more sense to read it, share it with you, and to take action:

Meals On Wheels programs across the country are having to shut-down their operations due to the strain of the current economy.  Programs in the states of Colorado , Florida , Texas , California , and Minnesota have already had to stop serving their homebound senior clients or plan to stop serving meals in the coming months.  Other Meals On Wheels programs have been forced to start waiting lists and even sell their delivery vans so that they can pay for food to serve the elderly.
“When our programs close, people go hungry,” said Enid Borden, President and CEO of Meals On Wheels Association of America (MOWAA).  “Now is the time for all of us, as Americans, to be responsible and think beyond ourselves.  Our seniors need us.”

When I interviewed Enid Borden last year on Boomer Radio*, it was before the experts concluded that a recession had arrived.

The need was great then, and now it’s even greater.

Would you join me in helping Meals on Wheels?

For more information about the organization, email www.mowaa.org or me at moneymattersandmore@yahoo.com

Thanks.
